San Diego State and Cal Poly? What are my chances?

Im looking to apply to SDSU and Cal Poly for the next fall term, but i just dont know my chance of getting in. Im a califronia resident. I have a 3.89 10-12 GPA so far and have taking/taking 4 courses. I have a SAT of 1550 and an ACT of 24. I'm looking to major in General Engineering, a impacted major at these school. Thats why I'm nervous.
Money is tight and can't afford to apply to a ton of schools. I'm also interested in Long Beach, Fullerton, UC San Diego, Pepperdine, Chico, UCSB and chico.

What are my chances??? @-)

taken/Taking 4 ap courses***

Calculate your UC/CSU GPA, see link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
For SLO only, use same calculator but add your 9th grade a-g courses. Also remember you can only get 8 extra honors points for your 10-11th AP/Honors classes. These classes have to be UC approved.

Your GPA looks good but your SAT/ACT really needs a boost. Since Engineering so competitive, you will need to retake either the ACT or SAT. You need to aim for an ACT of 30+ or SAT of 2000+ (Math/CR around 1350) to have a chance at the UC’s or SLO.

For SDSU, you need to calculate your Eligibility index: For SAT (CSU/UC GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + SAT CR) or
for the ACT: (CSU/UC GPA x200) + (ACT Composite x10).

An EI of 4100+ for Engineering puts in good standing for SDSU.

For CSULB, an EI of 4000+ is good. I am unable to find EI thresholds for CSUF or Chico State but around 3800+ would be good.
I would add Cal Poly Pomona to your list.

Based on the stats posted:

UCSD/USCB/SLO: Reach
SDSU/Pepperdine: High Match/Low Reach
CSUF/CSULB: High Match/Match
Chico State: Match

i calculated a EI of approximately 4042. so its a little sketchy. Thanks for the help!

Your EI is in the range for the Cal States except SLO. Not all schools have the General Engineering major, so at SDSU you need to apply with a type of engineering. I believe ME is the most impacted at SDSU followed by Computer Engineering. Good Luck

You seem very knowledgeable in regards to SDSU. Do you know anything about applying to a business major and which majors in business are typically the most competitive. I know that it is very likely that I will change my major within business over the 4-5 years but would like to give myself the best chance of getting into SDSU so I would consider applying to less competitive business major. I have an EI of about 3800. Math 580 reading 550 GPA 3.4ish

@cabound: I will answer your current post, but you need to start your own thread. It is considered rude to hijack another posters discussion::::
Since SDSU has a highly ranked business program, the EI has been increasing in the last few years and to be competitive you need be at least a 4000+ to 4100+ to have a good chance at acceptance.

If you look at the link below, Business Administration is the most popular Business major with a 39% acceptance, followed by Business Management with a 33% acceptance. The highest acceptance rate is for Financial and Tax planning at 44%. All are considered competitive since they have an acceptance rate below 50%. All you can do is apply and hope for the best. Good Luck
