I need help choosing a school. I can’t afford to visit either and there are pros and cons for each. I’ve been accepted to UCLA as well and I have the ability to attend amazing UC school but I don’t personally feel ready for it.
SFSU- lots to do, beautiful, has my major, BUT it is impacted and there’s a lot of people and I don’t know if I’d fit in
CSU Monterey Bay- Beautiful, small classes, has my major, BUT I heard it can be boring and there’s not much to do/no social life.
I also want to try out for the school’s soccer team. That’s a big reason why I am not going to a UC- it’s easier to make a sports team at a CSU. Any help on either of these schools is appreciated.
4.6 GPA and 1740 SAT
I don’t know if you are male or female. I do know that for men’s soccer at CSUMB it is difficult to walk on to the team- that is going to be true for most of the CSU’s. MB is Div.2 soccer and as such is quite competitive. Much,if not all, of the recruitment for the fall 2015 is already done. The coach may allow try-outs at the beginning of the school year but there is not a guarantee of that happening. You might consider looking at the club level on campus. It is still very competitive and is a large step above intramurals. What level of soccer are you currently playing?
As far as the MB campus, it is actually located north of the City of MB a few miles adjacent to an old military base. It is fairly isolated although I would guess they have buses that go into the city. The general area of MB is gorgeous but the campus is still in the midst of being updated. We have only been there in the summer but it was very quiet then. You really should go look at it if there is any possible way to do so- my son did a soccer camp there and was quite surprised at how isolated and old the campus is. You may end up loving it but it is definitely not for everyone.
