Santa Clara early admission 2020

Could someone who is familiar with engineering at SCU comment on CSE program? How strong is this program? How challenging it is for strong STEM students? I understand location advantage, but don’t know how much internships are actually offered by top CS companies.

That’s interesting, @msdarcy - good to know. As I noted, my son is CAS and would run screaming from anything that sounded like “engineering”, but we likely know of some other students for whom it might be a consideration.

It’s hard to do everything. S is struggling with that now, with so many opportunities still at his HS, even, and so little time. He definitely is ready to be done, but he also sees a lot of really cool stuff that he just never had time to do. Adulting - it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, I guess.

@2manybooks No they did not mention that some awards would be released immediately. I agree…it’s odd!

My portal was updated and I received around 18,000 in need based aid… anyone know if need based and merit based aid are released at the same time (meaning I didn’t get any merit aid)

If I see Dean Scholarship on my portal is that it? It is all I got? Or they might add more scholarships later? That is really strange. I have 2300 SAT, 800 on math2 and 4.88 GPA. I cannot believe this is all I got.

Are the loans counted as need based aid? And for the Dean’s is it a changing amount… I didn’t get as much merit as I was hoping…

D16 also got a Dean’s Scholarship. It’s $6000/year. It doesn’t increase and you have to maintain a 3.0 GPA. Click on the name of the scholarship to get the details.

Does anyone know how to withdraw a deferral? I was accepted ED to Pitzer and need to withdraw my SCU app.

When is Johnson’s Scholarship information released? I got the Dean’s, but I also was hoping for more merit-based aid.

@Alamalaki Yeah I have the same situation as you. I also got the Dean’s, but based on my stats, I was hoping for more. And I am genuinely interested in Santa Clara!

@texasbeast Congrats on going to Pitzer! I would think you could just email admissions in general or the counselor for your area and tell them you are withdrawing your app for admission. I think you should include the SCU student ID and your name and that should do it.

I got the Dean’s scholarship, but was really hoping for more based on my scores/grades/ECs. Will Provost/Presidential/Johnson be released later? Also, when do they notify about Honors college acceptance?

Same! What is up with SCU? Has anyone been notified of anything higher than Dean’s or the Johnson Scholarship???

In the previous pages of this thread I think someone mentioned they received the Provost scholarship.

I got incentive grants 6000 a year

S finally got his packet in the mail, but of course it happens on a night when he’s not home.

In the meantime, checked the portal for his award. He got the Dean’s, too. Really disappointed and hope this doesn’t mean we have to scratch this school off his list.

Santa Clara is known for being stingy. Do not be surprised about how much money they have given you. It is better than nothing. Think about it, Santa Clara expects people who have an income of 30k and less to still pay over 20k…they are extremely cheap when it comes to giving people aid.

Has anyone received notification of the Johnson’s Scholarship yet?

I think I know one person who got Johnson’s, but I am not exactly sure.

Pretty disappointed with the aid I received…
