Santa Clara is rather close by, Northeastern is on the other side of the country.
Majors: Computer Science in Santa Clara, Computer Science and Game Development in Northeastern.
Northeastern’s co-op program is the main draw for me, and their CS program looks good. I think most employers have heard of it?
Santa Clara is in Silicon Valley, but it seems popular regionally. Not sure how many employers outside of California (or, at the very least, in the east coast) have heard of it. There should be good opportunities, but there’s a lot of competition for spots.
I want to live out of state because I do not want to live at home forever. However, from looking at both campuses I like them a lot.
A bit late here but two great options. Plenty of Northeastern co-op’s in California and Silicon Valley, Santa Clara is a great option as well with of course a very advantageous location.
It sounds like you may be leaning Northeastern to go out of state - if the cost is similar I think it’s a fine choice. If one is significantly cheaper here, I would say it’s probably best to pick that one.
Congrats to you. What awesome choices especially with your major. I love both schools. Great options. Game theory is a great major at NEU. Boston isn’t Silicon Valley but it’s got a really strong tech economy. And cyber security start ups are hot locally. Good luck. You won’t regret neu but it would be hard to talk me out of Santa Clara too.
As of today, NEU is the higher ranked CS program and they have an excellent program, a Top 20 program. Every time my D comes home from NEU (here in Silicon Valley, and she hasn’t lived here very long, only about a year) I’m amazed at how many NEU people come from here and/or have relocated out to here.
Having said that, I think SCU is poised to become a leader in tech in the coming years. Obviously being right in the middle of Silicon Valley helps, but also their state of the art Engineering building will be built in 2 years, plus they are seeking a one billion dollar endowment.
What is the difference in cost? How much debt would you need to take on either way?
Given what Northeastern costs if you are full pay, economics has to be taken into consideration.
I am assuming that you know that it does get cold back here in the northeast. We also occasionally have what we call a “northeaster” which is what happens when a low pressure system gets centered over the gulf stream offshore. It picks up moisture from the gulf stream, and dumps the moisture on the residents of Boston. The peak of the storm generally involves strong winds from the northeast, which is how the type of storm is named.
