College Deciding (Comp Sci)

I’ve been accepted to Northeastern University in Boston and UC San Diego for computer science but was wondering which of these would be the better option for me. I’m from Cali so Northeastern may be far but i visited recently and enjoy the atmosphere of Boston. Also cost isn’t an issue as both are relatively the same. Which of these would provide me a better opportunity for job placement/grad school as NU has a great coop program but UCSD has better “prestige”. Also overall atmosphere/fun is a big factor. Thanks!

I’ve also been waitlisted to Johns Hopkins and was wondering if its worth the effort to try to get in

Boston doesn’t seem like a bad choice at all.

I think this one really depends where you want to live; SD or Boston. You’ll likely find as much opportunities here in CA where all the big name tech industries are as Boston, if not more. If you are really into software as well then it would be completely okay living in most places, since you’ll have the connection of the Internet and its billions of users at the palm of your hand anyway.

That’s my little take on your situation (which is nearly the same as mine).

I used to work in Boston and also got my Masters degree there and I was hoping my daughter would like Boston but she didn’t. But let me tell you after 2 years and major snowstorm that buried my car, I plotted my way back to California and has never looked back. Haha. There are tech industries in Boston but the tech industry in California is more vibrant and unbeatable.

So would cali be a better option entrepreneurship and start up wise?

There are starts up over in the East Coast but California definitely has more.

But what about schools? Which would offer a better education/overall experience to me

UCSD is definitely a tier above. But if you are not sure go check the faculty roster of both schools. I checked the CSE and most professors graduated from top 5 CS schools like UCB, MIT, Princeton, etc…
I only know the reputation of NEU years ago as a coop school, but it has changed recently but I still think UCSD is still better.
I don’t know about overall experience because I didn’t go to NEU so I’m going to say that I’m biased but I think UCSD is in a great location and probably one of the reasons why it can attract young professors to the area.
