What would my chances be at SDSU, Santa Clara university and Cal Poly.
(i live in california)
Cal Poly is out of the question, SDSU and SCU will both be a reach.
@Chalkman Okay, so do you recommend me doing 2 years at a CC and doing TAG (Guaranteed admission) at UC Irvine or UCSB?
I want to major in Computer Science by the way.
Community College is a great and affordable option. i definitely say you should do it. my brother is a graduate from scu and even with an amazing financial aid package, still sometimes wishes he went the community college route. it’s a really smart option. and yessss you will be guaranteed admission to the majority of UC schools. remember, the diploma from the school is what matters. not home you got there or when you transferred. best of luck!!
hard to draw any real conclusions without test scores.
A 3.5 weighted suggests UCs may be a challenge for you. SDSU will take a heck of an SAT - 1350/1600. Look into Long Beach, Chico and Fullerton - maybe Cal Poly Pomona.
Good luck.
@NCalRent what about Santa Clara University?
We would need your SAT/ACT score(s) to give your application a better assessment. For Santa Clara you chances are currently quite low (the average unweighted gpa is a 3.78/4.0). I would work on bumping up your gpa, taking the most rigorous courseload available that you can handle and taking leadership positions in your extracurricular involvements. Best of luck!
@AngryCookie I have a more recent thread.
Santa Clara uses a more holistic admission model than the CSUs so, we’d need to know more about your qualifications to assess your chances. Here’s the freshman class profile from last year.

3.7 UW and 1300/1800 SAT would make you mid pack. Stats below that would require you to stand out in other ways.
At this stage, don’t get too hung up on one school or another. Do your best this semester, prepare for and nail the SAT - then see where you are. Harvard, Stanford and a bunch of top schools are out of your reach. So what?! Focus on what’s possible - the doors that are open. - There are lots of very good schools that would be happy to have you.
Post again when you have test scores and we can help highlight several of them.
Good luck.
@NCalRent Thanks!
I don’t really have “dream school”. I’m really open to go anywhere.
