Santa Clara University or U of Oregon Clark Honors College??

So just this week, I received my acceptance letters to the honors college at University of Oregon as well as my Santa Clara acceptance along with a very generous financial aid package. Despite the $20,000 I received in financial aid to SCU, the cost ends up being about the same as U of O, as I received an $8,000 scholarship there also. There is a difference in tuition of about $20,000 anyways, so now I only need help deciding. Santa Clara and University of Oregon both have great business schools, which is the field I would like to go into. On one hand, the honors college at U of Oregon is very well regarded in terms of honors programs, especially being known as very prestigious in Oregon. I feel lucky to have been accepted. On the other hand, however, Santa Clara is obviously a very well known and regarded private school in the Silicon Valley, providing me with many opportunities post-grad. $20,000 is also pretty big for me in terms of financial aid, however for some reason I did not receive any merit aid, which put me out a little. I was expecting $5-10,000 at least in merit aid, as my stats were well above the median. Help me decide????

If you had rec’d merit aid, you would have rec’d less FA. The school determined that you have twenty thousand in need and gave that to you. If they had given you ten thousand in merit, then you would have only gotten ten thousand in FA. Twenty thousand total either way.

Pick SCU. UO is overrated.

It took $20,000 for SCU to fill the gap between them and UO - and UO accepted you into Clark Honors? UO is not overrated, it’s a state flagship, and it certainly isn’t overrated in regards to the Honors system they have.

If you haven’t visited one or the other (or both), then I suggest you do if it’s financially viable, but personally I would choose Oregon. Eventhough it’s a bigger school, it’s very well known outside of Oregon (can’t say the same in relation to SCU outside of CA), and the Honors College will mean a lot for you.

Unless you plan on staying in Silicon Valley after graduation, go to OU.

I would go with SCU

There isn’t much difference in prestige between the two, so either way you won’t be at disadvantage to the other. But have you visited both campuses? I haven’t been to the UO, but I’ve visited SCU a few times in the past and I thought the campus was so pretty and the students were pre-prof yet friendly instead of snobbish. It’s only downside for me is that it’s a Jesuit school, and I hate schools affiliated to any religious sect. But the students there that I’ve talked to told me that its being a catholic school doesn’t get in the way of their teachings…
