Out of the UC schools, I've read/heard that UCSC is the most like a private school in terms of faculty to student ratios, small and intimate classes, et cetera. (Not counting Merced). How true do you guys think this is? It seems that even SC would have too large of a student body to make this very accurate, but maybe not?

I wouldnt say it is more like a private university but it does feel like your at some summer camp xD

Oh no, it definitely feels like a public school ;). Especially with all the cuts to classes due to budget cuts (some of the offerings for next year are absolutely pathetic in some departments). Not all classes are that small, but they do often have discussion sections with the larger lecture classes so we don’t “get lost in the sea,” so to speak. Most of my classes are about 30 people, though, but that’s related to my majors and the type of classes I’m taking.

I did have a senior seminar that was only nine people counting myself. It was… more than a little unnerving since I had never had a literature class that small.

Agreed with twistnswif: I’d call it more camping-like than private school-like :D
