SAP Appeal Letter-Advice Please

Please criqtiue my SAP appeal letter

I had originally attended XXXX in Spring 2010, Spring 2011, Fall 2011, and Spring 2012. I registered for a total of 13 classes in that time frame and only successfully completed 3 of them. I did not put in the necessary time and effort needed to be successful because I did not want to admit that I had a drinking problem.

In November of 2013, I finally hit rock bottom and was ordered by a judge to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. It was then that I admitted that I was powerless over alcohol. I am proud to say that have maintained my sobriety since November 22, 2013 and still attend AA meetings regularly, even though I am no longer required by the court to do so.

The reason I want to return to school is that is April of this year, my son was born. I want to give him all the opportunities that I never had. I know that to provide for my child, I need a degree.

I have a great support system in place should the stress of family, work and school become too much. My parents are very supportive of my decision to return to school and have offer to watch my son whenever I need some time for studying. My AA sponsor is very supportive as well. He has been what I have been through is a great source of support whenever I need it.

I plan on taking as many on-line classes as possible. This will allow me more flexibility to work around my job and my family responsibilities. I have mapped out a manageable course load starting this Fall that will allow me to graduate in December of 2018.

My biggest regret in my life is not earning a college degree. When I think of how different my life would be if I had that degree, it frustrates me to no end. I humbly ask that you approve my appeal so that I may receive Federal Financial Aid and return to XXXX. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

I think the best course of action at this time is working part time and attending a local community college on a part time basis.

Take 2 classes, 6 credits total and see how that goes.

Having a small child and going to school, and working will be difficult, so it’s good that you have a good support system in place.

The school might not be able to approve you for federal and state financial aid until you pay for some classes on your own and earn enough credits to meet SAP.

I agree that it may be in your best interest to start part time and pay your way at least through the first couple of community college courses. Remember that there is a limit on how much or how long you can receive pell (I would advise using the pell once you get to the point of transferring to a 4 year school)
