Sap Appeal

Hi I have to do a Sap appeal in order to keep financial aid. Everything in my appeal is true. Can you critique my appeal and make sure it is good. I really appreciate it.

I am writing to ask you to appeal my suspension of federal financial aid because of the unfortunate circumstances that have occurred in the past years. I am in this situation because I failed to meet SAP my first semester here at clayton state (Spring11) because at the time my mother was on dialysis and stayed very sick, so I went home a lot to be with her and it caused me to fail because I missed a lot of classes. Near the end of that semester I was able to focus on school more because my mother received a kidney transplant, but it was too late because my grades were already too low. I was able to appeal that and stay in school. Since then I have been working my hardest and doing the best I can in school in order to get off of probation. I have yet to fail any other courses. This summer I took 2 courses in which I started 2 weeks late because my payments to the bursars office werenÂ’t showing up yet and they kept dropping my classes. I was really stressed, I stayed sick, and I was very depressed during this time. I moved in with my boyfriend in order to save money because during the summer I didnÂ’t receive federal aid and had to pay for school out of pocket. While staying with him I could not focus due to arguing and physical abuse. I never reported the abuse to the police. I just simply left the situation. They only person I told was my Boss and one of my co-workers. I also went to counseling before the situation happened but I did not continue to go because I didnÂ’t have time during the day due to work. I also missed a lot of work due to illness. I have an ulcer and my stomach tends to hurt a lot. I also have a low immune system and tend to get sick very easily. I have been told that stress will cause my ulcer to get worse. I have been to the school clinic due to illness and they gave me promethazine for nausea and a paper telling me how to deal with stomach ulcers. During this time I didnÂ’t do any work for 3 days because I still didnÂ’t feel well.
I can do better in school because I have changed most of the situations that caused me to fail to meet my SAP. I canÂ’t really fix when I get sick but I will do my best to still get my work done for any course I may miss due to illness. I have moved out of my ex-boyfriendÂ’s apartment and is now staying with a relative until school starts in the fall, so I can focus on school entirely with a major stressor. I have decided to continue to go to the school counselor because the counselor was a lot of help to me at the time of the situation and it helped me relieve some of the stress I had. I have started taking my medication for my ulcer to keep me from getting sick and have pains in my stomach. I have also changed my diet like the nurse suggested in order to stay healthy. I am a hard working student and I do my best. While I have been in school I have managed to complete more courses to the best of my ability. I will do my hardest to maintain my SAP GPA while in school and I will also go to a tutor for any course I may feel like I wonÂ’t be successful in. I am very dedicated because this is my future and school is the only thing keeping me motivated. Thank you for your time.

Sounds good let me know if it works!

Use paragraph breaks. I think the letter needs to be a bit shorter and put a clearer focus on what you have in place to succeed. Right now the letter is a bit rambling.

Identify clearly and separately the problems that got you into trouble in the first place. Then identify (clearly and separately) the solutions you have implemented to prevent those problems from happening again. Your emphasis should be on your solutions.

You have done all of this, but, as noted, the long and rambling nature of your letter makes it very hard to identify the key points.

I think you want without there.

I also agree with dodgersmom’s suggestions. Good luck!
