Well, I'm very much interested in pursuing a career in business in the future, but I also have an unquenchable passion for Creative writing: poetry and prose, philosophy, history etc. Sarah Lawrence does not offer any courses which have any semblance to business- I'm not keen on going to grad school as I want to start working right after college. What do you think I should do?

Your passion for many subjects will definitely be satisfied by Sarah Lawrence. I personally think that the extremely strong emphasis on independent scholarship/grad school-level research and writing with your conference projects will foster important skills for a business career or for any career in general, including leadership.

Although yes, there are no business courses and the school doesn’t have a big offering of professional degrees, I would say apply. Besides the possibility of you changing your mind in the future about your career, there is a Social Entrepreneurship club. The team got into the semifinals last year for the Hult Prize, which is a global competition about addressing a social problem, and I believe that they beat out Columbia University, MIT, and Harvard Business School. There was not one business major in the team - it was a mix of psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, science, and of course, writing. The founder of the club spoke at the Scholars Reception this past February for the Class of 2018 recipients of Merit Scholarships. If you want to contact her, her name is Sachi Shah. Here is the article: http://www.slc.edu/news-events/news/2014-03-20-slc-students-are-semi-finalists-in-hult-prize-competition-nr.html

Look at ALL of the courses available at SLC and think of any other alternative careers that you would like to pursue. If you decide to attend, you’re going to interweave all of the subjects in ways that you’ve never imagined and attain so much knowledge and yes, put it to a practical use.

I really hope that this helped you. You didn’t write much in your post, but you seem very self-motivated and scholarly and determined, which is basically the college.

Sarah Lawrence is also strong in math, economics, and public policy. I know that that is not business, but here’s the entire section devoted to Entrepreneurship: http://www.slc.edu/undergraduate/entrepreneurship-at-sarah-lawrence-college.html

I’m a Sarah Lawrence grad who went on to a successful career in advertising. I believe that the core skills I learned at SLC were directly applicable and really helped me along the way. You learn how to do research, make a cogent argument, write well, finish complex projects on a deadline, etc. I did have to plug a few gaps in my general business skills after leaving school, but that was pretty easy to pick up. BTW, if you eventually do want to back to business school, SLC grads tend to do very well on b school acceptance.
