Sargent?

Does anyone know if it is easier, harder, or the same to get into Sargent College at BU, compared with Arts and Sciences? Sargent seems like a good fit for my daughter who likes physiology and public health, but she is worried about hurting her chances of admission to BU by choosing it. Here are some of her stats:

SAT 1470
GPA 4.4 weighted
AP Gov 4, AP Bio 4, AP Lang 5 (this year taking AP psych, AP Calc, and AP Lit).
No hooks for admission, but captain of Cross Country. Top-rated NJ public school.

Thanks!

Sargent is one of the hardest schools to get into at BU (along w/ COM, ENG, and Questrom). CAS would definitely be much easier. Your daughters stats are good, but her SAT score is on the low end for general BU admissions, which will make it even harder for her to be accepted into Sargent.

Also does your daughter do any other ECs other than XC? BU really likes well-rounded students and I know a lot of people that had very high stats that had only 1 or 2 ECs that were rejected.

Also, if BU feels that your daughter will be a good fit for the school but they don’t feel that she will be able to keep up with Sargent course load they will place her in CGS. The only people that I know that were placed in CGS applied to CAS, so I’m not sure if they would place her in CAS undecided before putting her in the boston-london program, but I do know that if she chooses to be considered for CGS they will place her there if they want her but she doesn’t get into Sargent.

Thanks for your reply. Yes she does other ECs. President of a couple school clubs (philanthropy and social justice types), some tutoring, selected to a county government junior commission on women’s issues (one of 21 students)…
I expect her letters to be quite solid., but they are not from STEM (AP gov and AP lang). Good creative essays we think.
She will prob apply ED2 to BU but hasn’t ruled out ED1. Just struggling with whether to do Sargent or Arts and Sciences. If she knew that getting rejected from Sargent would possibly get her admitted to CAS then she would be fine with it. But CGS would prob not be her cup of tea.

@trockim : OP’s daughter has a 1470 SAT score which is on the high end, not low end, for Boston University. (I think that you may be confusing BU stats with Harvard stats.)

Also, one committed EC, such as captain of the cross country running team, is enough for BU.

Hi! I applied EDII into the Sarget college with the Trustee Scholarship
I took the ACT: 28
Average: 95.3
We do not rank
I have an extensive list of extracurriculars
I know this school is a reach for me, but it is my dream school. I am extremely nervous about my decision. Some insight would be extremely helpful thanks

@2eni0rkw Applying ED will help. did you select the CGS option?

The Trustee Scholarship is not likely.

I did not just because I wasn’t 100% sure what it really was, even after doing research on it. I also knew that it is based in London and my parents were not too thrilled about doing that in my first year of school. I probably should have thinking back on it :/. I also forgot to mention that I am graduating taking AP’s and Syracuse University credits so i’m not sure if that affects anything about my acceptance. Thank you so much for your input though! if you have anything else that you feel like you would be helpful please don’t hesitate!
