SAT/ACT score comparison

I'm just curious. Someone mentioned in another thread (but I can't remember where) how to compare scores between the two tests. For example, a 1400 on the SAT is comparable to a ? on the ACT.

Wikipedia has a table, but it's been said to be too generous.

Here it is: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACT_%28examination%29%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACT_%28examination%29</a></p>

A 1400 is a 19 on the 2400 scale and a 31 on the 1600 scale.

Thanks!!!!

If you had to choose between the SAT and that ACT, which would you pick?

For my d (who is a little weak in math) - the SAT was far better. She did great on the ACT verbal sections but the math and science killed her. Some people find the ACT easier so ???

I don't think those SAT-ACT score comparisons are really fair in my opinion. The ACT's composite score can be very high despite not being good in one particular topic, while the SAT requires above average scores in all 3 sections.

A couple of more:

Does anyone know why the SAT was changed to include the writing part since a lot of people say there isn't much value placed on this additional section? It must mean something if it is a required part of the SAT, right?

My understanding is that colleges will begin using it now that they have some figures to compare. Hopefully now that it has been in use for 2+ years they will start placing more value on it- It is my daughters highest section!!! LOL

There are legends that the writing section wont last much longer.

How do you calculate the composite ACT score? Do they average the subsections (Math, Science, English) and then round up/down?

I hope the SAT changes again - perhaps the writing section should be dropped or made much shorter. I could not believe that it took my daughter almost 6 hrs to get through the test last weekend. I was an hour early when I went back to get her! It's too LONG.
