I'm looking for a Test Prep Course to take this summer for the ACT, and my counselor suggested the following Test Prep Centers.

Could you please give me feedback on the effectiveness of each of these centers if you have taken any of them?

Compass Education Group

The Princeton Review

Kaplan Educational Center

Elite Educational Institute (I have heard this is one of the hardest, yet one of the most effective test prep courses around by my peers - but, it's unfortunately only for the SAT, not the ACT - would it still benefit me?)

Alexandra Dumas Rhodes (Individual Test Counseling - Educational Consulting)

Ivy West - Educational Services, Inc.

Revolution Prep

Thank you.

Princeton Review is really bad. I took it for the SAT, so I’m not sure about the ACT, but the classes should all be in the same caliber. The only good thing Princeton Review offers is free practice tests (even for those who aren’t enrolled in a program.)

Kaplan, from what I’ve heard from my peers, is really bad also.

I have heard that PR is great. A friend of mine took it for SAT.

^Really? I took it, and it was just fail. Apparently a 1960 on the first diag means I’m exceptionally smart, and I should pay an extra $1000 for the better class… [I did pay for it because money wasn’t an issue] I ended up with a 2090 on the first real SAT I took 2 months after. So basically 2 grand for 130 point increase.

umm…kaplan stinks…that’s all.

I will say that the only good thing about prep classes is that you get a lot of material to practice. But you have to be sincere and practice it thoroughly for any real results on the actual test. I also gave 2000 dollars for kaplan and their math methods ticked me off. So…good luck!!!

Thanks for all the info regarding Princeton Review and Kaplan.

Is it true that private tutoring and/or studying the College Board books by yourself is a much better to boost your score than spending a load of cash on prep courses? (Mainly cause money is tight in my household)

And does anyone have any experience with Elite, Compass, or PowerScore?

Thanks.
