Yes and its probably because of the new study showing that the SAT writing score was the best indication for future success in college. [UGA Research Magazine :: SAT: Writing best indicator of academic success](http://researchmagazine.uga.edu/aa/spring2009/writing.php)
Not sure if this is really the reason, but the writing portion of the SAT has turned out to be a good indicator for success in college and it is given equal weight at most Florida universities.

Does it say what a good score is?

A 25 minute timed essay is a good indicator of college success? o.O

FSU has required the writing portion via SAT OR ACT be available for review since 2006, and has used the writing scores in their decision making starting with decisions made in 2008 for FSU class of 2013. This is not the first year.
