SAT: After five weeks of waiting, we STILL don't know

Well, still no scores. The CB had told me that they might be available this morning but nothing for daughter. I guess eventually they will snail mail them to us.

Every time I see the title of kdos's thread down below ("After two years of research, we still don't know"), I think it is about my daughter's SAT scores. :)

That's terrible to have to wait like that. Let us know when she finally gets her scores. Is it the grading of the essay that's slowing it down? Like maybe her two essay scorers had scores too far apart and so a third person is going to grade the essay?

My D's in the same boat. They told us to check on 4/18. She wants to know so she knows whether or not to sign up for June.

I feel so sorry for you and your daughter Carolyn. It was fustrating enough to wait 4 weeks, now to have to wait longer...

It would be nice even if there are problems with the essay they could give you her scores without the essay. The ACT will share scores after two weeks without the essay score. Although I think that it's a rip off to charge $8 for that privilage.

The problem is that kids have to make a decision on taking another SAT or ACT without knowing how they did on the first one. How can they know what to study for if they have no idea what their weak spot is?

I do hope that the College Board will be able to iron out the kinks in the testing procedure soon.

I already asked if we could have the math/reading without the essay. They said no. :(

The problem is she is signed up to take the May test and it would be nice to have the results of this test soon enough to be able to focus on prepping for the next go-round. They did tell me yesterday that they would allow me to cancel the May test for a refund, but they do that for everyone, not just the kids who are still waiting.

Oh well, this too shall eventually pass.

I spoke to a supervisor who said, "WELL, we have up to 8 weeks to get you the results", like I'm supposed to be grateful.

Not that it's any consolation to those of you still waiting...but this is NOT unusual for collegeboard and has nothing to do with the new test. My D took the SAT last Oct.( so no essay scoring excuse!) and had to wait just over 8 weeks for her scores. I called CB numerous times and each time got a different customer rep and a different story, including talking to supervisors. I also sent e-mail to leave a paper trail. What worried us was that all other students in her test room got their scores online at the posted times. Nov. testers also had their scores before her. We were afraid that her test booklet had been lost or some other disasterous fate had befallen it. And we too were up against time contraints for a re-take, etc. She is a senior, but dug her heels in and refused to sign up again for Nov.or Dec. test. She had already taken the SATI junior year. Long story short...we eventually received a call from CB with her scores and they were excellent about waiving the fee for rush scores, etc. In the end I was very satisfied with their response and it was worth the wait...she increased her score by 140 points. There were a few others in her hs class that also experienced this kind of 'delay'. I guess somewhere in the fine print it does say that CB has 8 weeks to report scores...though I never found that info. on their website. I well understand the stress, anxiety and frustration you are experiencing. We went from 8 weeks of anxiety for SAT scores to application deadlines and right into the waiting game for acceptances. The happiest consequence of the score delay: I happened upon CC while researching the score delay on the 'Net and I've been reading and learning ever since!

I take every opportunity to tell students that they might experience this 8 week window for scores and to plan their testing schedule accordingly if possible.

She's my third and last child...so we are finished with the college application process. But I have 16 nieces and nephews who will be lining up for help...I guess I'll hang around CC a little longer.

Good luck to those of you still waiting for scores...I hope that the results are happy and worth the wait when they finally do come in.

Cello mom, Thanks, that does help. It's the sense of not=knowing what is going on that is frustrating so your assurance that all can work out is very comforting.

My S hasn't received his scores either and the CB will not tell me anything other than "it's not scored". One rep even went so far as to say that some tests may not be scored until mid-May!!! I hate to think about how long it will take to get results from hand scoring!!

Carolyn:

Would it be a good strategy for your D to take SAT-IIs in May and think about retaking the SAT in June as needed?

The wait is over for us. My D received her scores today!

Thanks for the advice...he will definately take the SAT II's in June. Based on his March SAT results, I was hoping to choose the subject tests he would perform best on. Unforuntately I'll probably just have to pay for his top 3-4 subjects and then decide (and forfeit $) I also hoped that I would not have to pay for another SAT test in June if he performed well on this one. We have a limited budget and 3 closely spaced children~enough whining...I hope that the CB understands the personal/financial situation of the majority... (or minority?)
