I can’t afford any test prep so my only option is whatever free resources I can find online. I don’t really know much about these tests, especially the ACT. However, I did blindly take an SAT my junior year and got a 1040 but my goal is to get a 1490 by the next test date at the beginning of my senior year. I’m sure I can do it, but I’m not sure exactly which route to take because I’ve been using Kahn Academy though I’ve heard that it’s not the most ideal resource. As far as the ACT goes…I know absolutely nothing.
My sons did great with just prep books purchased from the local bookstore. They used the Kaplan and Barron’s books. Try to study a prep book more or less daily a bit at a time. The practice tests are very good. Be sure to take some during the weekends leading up to test day, and get your parents to time you.
If you can’t afford a test book, borrow from a friend who is finished with theirs, or see if an organization at your school is willing to start a collection of donated prep books that you and others could borrow.
By any chance could I possibly get a prep book from the library?
Don’t know. Good idea to check there!
Khan Academy offers free online test prep.
If you get books from the library, check the dating on them. The older books will still be useful, but they won’t be completely accurate to the current test.
@jewel78 I recommend that you download a ACT practice test from the ACT website and take it at home under timed conditions. See how you do. If the result is better than your current SAT score, prep for the ACT. If the SAT is better, go with that. There is no reason to prep for both, especially if one better fits your test-taking style than the other. You can google “compare SAT and ACT scores” to find out which is higher. If they come out the same, pick the format that you prefer.
You should be able to get prep books at your school or town library. The SAT underwent a major change about three years ago, so make sure the book is current, as @TheSATTeacher recommends.
I believe there are 8 retired SAT exams available on line. Not sure how many ACT are available. Prep books generally include at least 4 practice tests and cost $15-20 apiece.
In addition to Khan Academy, you can purchase access on line prep through ACT for not too much money.
