My highest SAT is 2120 and my ACT is 33 (Combined highest Composite from 2 sittings: 34). Stanford wants me to send all the scores. Will 2120 hurt my chances. Also, when stanford calculates the 25th - 75th percentile for SAT and ACT, does it take into calculation all the scores submitted by those who were admitted, or the higher of the two tests?

Stanford will take your highest scores from either the ACT or the SAT. Since your ACT composite 33/34 is higher than your SAT score at 2120 your ACT scores will supersede the SAT scores…your test scores are within range…but, they will not determine your ultimate fate. Of the small handful of the top elite schools…Stanford tends to be the most “liberal” and holistic when looking at test scores…

…because, in the end, Stanford is NOT looking for test taking drones or GPA gunners (there are plenty of other schools that do this)…rather, they are looking for as many diamond-in-the-rough type students as well as the most interesting/successful students…

…they are looking for students who can and will thrive within and outside of the Stanford community…

D and I attended a Stanford information session. Admissions counselor stated send your highest score…ACT or SAT…it doesn’t matter which one. Also…recommendation letters must come from teachers you had junior and senior years only…that was emphasized!

@Rachelsmommy. You and your daughter may have misinterpreted what the Stanford rep may have said. Please read the following from Stanford’s website (it is clear and to the point):

Well, that is interesting. You’re right. But, I can say with certainty, that is what the admissions representative said. At the time we went, D had not taken SATs yet. Her ACT is 35. Rep confirmed she did not need SAT. Glad you confirmed otherwise. Thank you. @gravitas2

Although, as I reread the first paragraph…it does say either or. So, if you didn’t take SAT, you are not required to take and send. You send both if you took both. That’s how I interpret.

@gravitas2 I don’t think that conversion between SAT and ACT really makes sense. Had I scored one more point in science in my second attempt, I would have got a 34. And 1 point on science is probably 1 question incorrect. But anyway, thanks for your help. 33 on in top 50% of Stanford’s admitted class so I think I needn’t worry about that.
