Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm curious about how much the writing section/overall score of the SAT matters to colleges. People always say colleges don't look at writing but I'm no Admissions expert so I have no idea what to believe. I received a 580 :( on the writing section, but a 740 and 720 on the verbal parts. Will my below-average writing section seriously hurt my chances in admissions?

only if you’re applying to schools that look at writing scores. some scores do not look at writing scores to evaluate the student. in such cases, you should be fine. however, if you’re applying to the best colleges, it’s better to have good scores on all three sections anyway.

Thanks for the reply! Well my farfarfar reach schools are Cornell BC and Lehigh, do you know specifically for those schools?

Other opinions?

Really no one knows?

Cornell does not look at writing scores, so i think you’re safe there. i don’t know what lehigh does, but you can check on collegeboard if they do look at writing scores.
