I’ve just got my SAT Chinese score back and I got 700. I’m very confused because I’ve studied Chinese for only 1 year, but 700 is not a really high score. Should I retake the test to achieve higher score? Thanks.
What’s your native language? I took SAT Chinese in November and got an 800. But my first language is Chinese and I only took it because I will be applying to colleges as a domestic student and wanted to prove that Chinese is my first language, not English. I heard that many, many people get 800s on the Chinese subject test because too many native speakers take it. If your first language is English and you want to prove your proficiency in your second language, I would suggest you take it again if you have time to study more. It would be impressive for an American to get a 700 on Chinese but if you’re Chinese or Chinese American it’s better off to not take it again because too many people get perfect scores.
Also it depends on the colleges you are applying to. I’m speaking from an ivy league test preparation standpoint here…
Thank you, it’s actually very helpful as my goal is to get into one of those ivy league schools. My 1st language is neither Chinese nor English, it is Vietnamese. When I took the SAT Chinese, it was the first time I’ve ever taken a SAT test( I took SAT Subject Test BEFORE I took the SAT) , so I was extremely nervous.
Wow that’s very impressive. Since your first language is not Chinese, a 700 is really good!!
Anyway, I got accepted by Penn!! If you ever have any questions feel free to PM me!
Wow congrats!!! Penn is my dream school :). I’ll apply next year, so wish me luck :)).
And thanks for your advice :).
@andieemillerry Good luck!! And you’re welcome
The median score on SAT Chinese is below 700 even for students who have studied it for 4 years!
