SAT Critical Reading Section HELP PLZ!!!

How can I improve on my SAT CR? I keep getting high 400s-low 500s. For the short passages, I read the passage and then answer questions. For the long passages, I go to questions, look for line references, mark them in the passage, and start reading the passage. What else can I do to improve? Those of you who got low 700s-high 700s, give me some advice plz.

Currently stuck in low 700s here.

You’ll hear this a million times but interest works wonders for long passages. Rather than try to “fake” interest, I think about the larger picture of things when reading those. I’m not really concentrating on the SAT while doing this, but I’m looking at how this reading connects to what I have thought of before.

For example, if I’m reading a SAT passage about a specific artist, I think about the role of art in human perception, how visual pleasure operates, and I just overall get a better idea of the passage. In a way, i’m not faking interest, but i’m getting genuine interest. Call me insane.

To be honest I would avoid rushing to the questions immediately. I read about 1/4-1/3 of the passage at a time, then look for questions I can answer. While answering, process of elimination is key: play devil’s advocate, and eliminate as many choices as possible. Eventually you’ll always run into an agreeable choice.

Best of luck.

Do NOT second guess yourself. Whatever answer appears to be right when you look through the first time is probably correct. I cannot tell you how many times I would switch my answer last minute and get it wrong. I started to just go with my first choice, and my last Critical Reading section practice I scored a 22/24, and one of the wrong question was a vocab question. I used to get about half of the question right per section before this method…
