SAT Critical Reading

Hello. I am International student. This means that I am not native English speaker. I am learning SAT, and I am having some problems with Critical Reading, I want to get 700 on Reading. Please help me and give me some tips

A 700 is very difficult to get even for native speakers. Try hard and hope for the best that is the only advice I can give! Even if you get between a 500-600 be proud because many native speakers don’t even get that!

I need a learning tactics that is effective and time-saving.

If you have time til test day, I suggest you read harder material under time limit. Get access to NYTimes or The Economist, and read an article. Write a 3-5 sentence summary in a notebook after reading and you’ll become more adept at it. Also underline words you don’t know as you read and then jot down meanings of them. For vocabulary, use Direct Hits Vol. 1 and 2 and The Essential 500 words. I used to get 500s, I’m getting 650+ now and it’s only been a month. Vocab helps TREMENDOUSLY. I’d say it’s impossible to score 700+ without knowing at least 75% of words. On dual passages on test day, write summaries for paragraph 1 and 2 and such. I’ve seen non native English speakers boost their vocab and reading level and jump from 500s to 700s.

As the above poster said, learn the vocab in Volumes 1 and 2 of the Direct Hits. Another technique is to read difficult books, like the ones found on Collegeboard’s reading list.
