SAT Curve

hey all..
can somebody tell what procedure the college board follows in calculating the SAT curve...

i doubt anyone knows for sure, but it is made prior to the test. so i guess they base it off of previous tests and sample takers?

i guess so....

How exactly does a curve work?, they just add extra points to your final sat score?...

I believe they use the experimental sections to determine curves. They introduce new problems in the sections, and, based on how many people get them correct, they can classify the problems into easy, medium, and hard. By using a certain combination of types of questions, they can determine a curve prior to the test.

Edit: odin— The curve determines what scaled score (200-800) is equivalent to your raw score (something around -15 to 60, or -20 to 80).

i dont have an exact source, but im pretty sure they determine the curve before hand.

The 200-800 system works approximately as follows:

500 is the mean score.
Each 100 points is one SD, so 700 is 2 SD above the mean.

All of this is determined prior to the test based on performance of students on the experimental sections
