I know Duke super scores SATs. My D is sending in scores from the last two SAT administrations with the ED application. However, we just learned that she bombed the essay on this last October test (her August essay scores are strong). In fact, the October essay score is so low that it’s hard to believe it isn’t an error.
So my questions are:
Does Duke super score the essay?
If not, do they actually care about the essay scores?
And to what extent might this really low essay score hurt her admissions chances given great grades and scores in English/Writing classes, APs etc. and a strong August SAT essay score?
I do not know the answer to your questions; but same thing has happened to my daughter with surprisingly very low scores for the essay (also though it must be a mistake) for the 7 October SAT while her essay scores for the May SAT were very high. In fact the same thing happened to 8 of her friends - all had very low essay scores for the Oct SAT
Thanks for the response. I’ve heard that Duke super scores the SAT essay, although I don’t know if that is correct. If there actually were some problems with the grading of the Oct SAT essay, I hope schools are aware.
A single score will not affect your admission decision one way or another. This score in particular is usually lower, too. As long as they see you’re academically up to par based on most scores/grades, then they won’t be nitpicky.
