So I got my results back for my SAT today (800 M 710 CR) and I have a question specifically about Duke:
On the admissions site, it says I must submit my scores with an essay. However, I didn’t take this particular SAT with an essay. They also state that they “will use the highest available scores in each section, plus the two highest Subject Test scores, regardless of the date those tests were taken.”(essentially they will superscore).
Does this mean in order to submit the perfect score I got on the math to Duke I need to retake the SAT w/ Essay?
Any insight is helpful.
Thanks
Yes unfortunately the essay is required. You will need to retake. But if you score worse on the SAT math when you retake, you can use the score from the current SAT math to superscore.
if you submit a SAT score, you must submit all SAT scores you have ever received. Additionally, if you choose to submit the SAT, you must take it with the essay at least once. Duke also highly recommends that if you choose to submit the SAT only (no ACT) that you take at least two SAT subject tests. This means that if you want to submit the SAT, you should take it again with writing along with two SAT II tests.
As a side note-- I would avoid taking a test more than 2 or 3 times. If you score poorly on the SAT writing, don’t sweat it, one weak score won’t hurt you. Good luck!
^^^ this used to be the case for Duke. But they changed their policy last year. You can select which scores you want to send.
Don’t sweat it. My D took the SAT (1420) and ACT (35) without writing and had to submit her SAT Subject test scores. They weren’t good and she got in.
