Whenever I am doing an SAT essay, I always spend the most time formulating my introductory paragraphs (mostly the first 2-3 sentences). Anyone have any advice to help me out?

Just have a 1 or 2 sentence introduction. You do not need a normal introduction. If this were the case, I’d be in big trouble, because when I write a formal paper, I write the introduction last and it usually takes me hours to formulate. But on the SAT, I have written several 11 point essays with just a 1-sentence introduction.

The readers know that if given proper time, you’d write a more complete introduction.

Wow, thanks for the help! I’ll probably stick to a 2 sentence introduction, one sentence relating to my opinion on the prompt and the other on the examples/works I will be using to validate my views

Yes, I prefer 2 sentences, too, but I’ve done the 1 sentence thing to see if my scores would go down. They didn’t.

I understand that you are a pretty well-known tutor around here… do you take actual SAT tests on test dates even though you are no longer in high school?

Yes. I am usually older than the proctors at the high school! It was embarrassing at first, but now I know a lot of the regular test takers through teaching and tutoring so most people know why I am there!
