<p>Does Brown look at the essay portion of the SAT Writing section? I received an 8, which is far from great (I like to let ideas stew in my brain before I write and twenty minutes is definitely not enough for me) but got all of the multiple choice questions right for a total of 780. I don’t want the admission office to think there’s some sort of weird discrepancy between my application essay and the SAT essay.</p>
<p>Admissions officers are not stupid people, surely they will understand that not every student writes well under SAT conditions. The fact is your section score is still a 780, it is silly to be worried about a discrepancy like that. If you had got a 4, perhaps we could have that discussion, but an 8 is not the worst thing in the world.</p>
<p>Do they see the number? Commonapp doesnt ask for it but when you send in scores from collegeboard, they show up..</p>

<p>Werd. I'm in same situation (80 & 9 --> 790.) I think our scores just reflect how subjective and dumb the SAT essay grading is. (: Clearly, we've got a strong hold on the English language... ;]</p>
<p>I think the SAT essay really is subjective. I've gotten good essay scores on essays I thought were doomed to be crap, and bad essay scores on essays I thought were pretty good. It seems as if essays that could be given a 5 or 6 can be just as likely to get a 4 sometimes.</p>
<p>The other day someone showed me their 12 essay and I thought my 10 essay was just as good, if not better . . . oh well SATs are over for me now anyways.</p>
<p>Lol, yeah I got 79 and an 8, for a 760 W. A girl I know, who is.. erm... a pretty terrible writer, got a 12 on the essay, which was surprising to say the least. Anyhow, the SAT essay scoring is clearly not always representative of each person's real writing ability - if your application essay is awesome, I'm pretty sure they'll be more affected and impressed by that than if you had gotten a 12 on your SAT essay.</p>
<p>I used the same essay twice. They had almost identical wording and the same organizational structure, but slightly adjusted introductions and conclusions to adjust to the prompts.</p>
<p>I got 11 the first time, 12 the second.</p>
<p>The only thing I remembered doing differently the second time around was writing slightly bigger so that I took up all the room they gave me. The first time, I left half a page blank.</p>
