SAT Fee Waiver question

The deadline to apply for the october 1 SAT is September 1. However school does not start until around september 8.
How would I be able to get a fee waiver?

I know of no way to obtain a fee waiver except through your school. You might try finding the email address of your college counselor. School may not start until September 8, but it is possible that he or she is available before September 1.

What’s the most early college application deadline? The earliest I have seen from the colleges I checked are mostly January. So I was wondering if I can just sign up for a later SAT other than the Oct 1 one…

You can register late. The deadline for late SAT registration for the October SAT sitting is Sept. 20, 2016. Do you live in the NY area by any chance? There should be people in schools by now because of student scheduling (I know because that’s how my school works), so you could even try to email some staff at your school or something.

For ED you usually need to take the Oct or Nov dates, but Dec (and usually Jan) are fine for regular admission. @gmkoon is right that fee waivers can be used during the late registration period as long as you are testing in the U.S.

You should definitely make the effort to contact your counselor. Maybe you will want to retake the SAT and/or take subject tests and you will need to get rolling asap.

Also if you end up doing late registration, that will be $28 not covered by waiver. Better than paying full fee, but hopefully avoidable.

Remember that even if you are able to get in touch with your counselor, they will not necessarily be able to process your waiver request right that minute, and likewise the College Board may not issue it immediately, so don’t wait till Aug 31.

Our school district has people in the administrative offices all summer, so if you can’t get a hold of your counselor, try calling them and explaining your predicament. There might be someone other than your counselor who can make it happen.

OK, so I will call ASAP.
Is it better to take the SAT early and send my application early? I heard theres a higher chance of acceptance if I send it in early.

It’s good to take the SAT early in case you need/want to retake.

At many schools you will have greater chance for merit aid if you apply early, either because there is an early deadline, or because it’s given out until funds run out.

Applying early demonstrates your interest in the school. It also shows that you are an organized, determined, & capable person.

Your senior year will be more enjoyable sooner when you have most or all of your testing & apps finished sooner. If you pick colleges well you should have an EA acceptance in hand early in the game, which is a morale booster as well as letting you relax a little, knowing you already have one sure thing.

You should only apply ED after doing a lot of research into the pros and cons, which are addressed in many forums & other websites, and better to start a new thread if you want to further address timing of applications.

@alooknac is incorrect concerning using fee waivers for late registration. SAT does allow fee waivers for late registration, however ACT does not.
