For those of you who have already taken the SAT:

If you remember your score from the very first practice test you took, what was it? And what was your score on the real thing?

Any input is appreciated, I'm just wondering how much I can hope to improve my score.

I did better on the actual test (I think around 100 pts better). I think a lot of people do better on the real one b/c there is usually less distractions during the actual test-but a lot of it probably depends on the person too (some people do better on practices).

Best of luck!

2150

2320

Its all acclimation

I took the SAT once my freshmen year and practiced a bit for it.
Practice: 2000 Real: 2190
Then again my Junior year
Practice: 2320 Real: 2400

During the real thing, there are less distractions. You’re focused more on the test and less on all the sounds around you, your plans for tomorrow, etc. When I took practice tests, I always found myself with the urge to take a look at the answers in the back of the book, even in the middle of the test.

That said, your scores on the practices are what you should go in expecting. While you might do better on the real thing, you could easily do worse. Perhaps you’re feeling a bit too sleepy the day of the test. Maybe you had too much coffee, or too little. Perhaps a really annoying pop song just happens to be stuck in your head the day of. Stuff happens.

Very first practice test in 8th grade: 1770
Took the SAT in 8th grade (January) for talent search purposes: 2140
Took the SAT again (officially my first time) this past January: 2360

first: 1780 December 2012
actual: 2400 March 2013

First: 1750 (May 2012)
Final: 2210 (January 2013)

I didn’t study much for the exam. I took approximately 10-15 practice tests, listened to several lectures, and read through the guides here on CC. I took the exam as a sophomore. Best of luck!

First ever practice test:1760. Second time on the real thing: 2190
