HELP! i am taking the sat's for the fourth time in january (senior), and i was wondering if i should even do that...will my schools still take the highest on each section, or will they average all my scores, because that would be horrible! it wouldn't even be worth taking the test if my average is going to be lower! is this how it works, or, please tell me that colleges will take my highest from each section! i can cancel my sat registration, im not worried about the fee, im just worried that my scores are going to be averaged and thats horrible! please reply as soon as possible! sorry for being frantic, thanks!

You really shouldn't take the SAT that many times unless you think you can improve on your scores by something really drastic (like a 100 points or higher).

well, i think i can improve, but should i not take it cuz they will average my scores? right now im at a 1340, not good for georgetown...

it doesn't matter if you take it a fourth time. if gtwon wants you, they'll take you regardless of how many times you took the SAT. i don't know about averaging your scores, but it seems that is some sort of urban legend created by ignorance about the admissions process.

EDIT: Contrary to all of these 100+ advocates, I would say raising it to a 1400 would be well worth taking it again.

They'll see all your scores, but they'll consider your highest. They won't average your scores. I would really advise you against taking it a fourth time unless you are positive you can raise it 100+.

TBH though, Georgetown's middle 50% scores for verbal and math are 660-750 and 1340 is definetly whithin that middle 50%. So really, based on your SAT score, your chances of getting in are pretty decent, even if you don't take again and gain a huge improvement.

However, if you wanna be on the safe side take tons of practice tests. If you consistently get 1440 or above on the practice tests then take the SATin january.

hey im in the same dilemma as u and the funny thing is that I am concerned about the same exact school....question but i am assuming u have sent ur scores...so even if u do worse they won't see that...so is there really anything u can lose from it?

Won't they know that he took it a fourth time?

how??...u send ur scores out , and then later u can rush em to gtown AFTER u receive ur scores. am i not right? what i am saying that if he doesn't improve then they will never know because he obviously won't send the scores out.

Hmmm, in that case, he should really cram and try to make a big improvement.

im getting above 1500 on practice tests...i really didnt study as much for the other three...

if your getting above 1500, DO IT!

lol, okay, im gonna do it then...thanks for all your help, i was freaking out about the averaging thing, but if they don't then im gonna do it...
