Hi guys! I am planning on taking the SAT II Chem and Math II in November. I have a Princeton and Barrons book for each. And I am aware that I can take some practice tests at Sparknotes too. For what I've read here, that should be enough to prepare. My question is whether I would have enough time to study for the Subject Tests since I will be taking the SAT in October and the PSAT later in October. Would it be better to take the 2 Subject Tests in December?

First of all are you a going to be entering/have entered your junior or senior year of high school?

I will be entering my junior year. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

Chemistry you can hard core study. I went from a 650-770 in three days. Math II is very easy to begin with so just look at practice tests for familiarity.

Don’t wait too long.

I’ve already taken the Chemistry Subject Test but I wasn’t satisfied with my score. So taking both in November would be fine?

Lightning2012 you dont need to rush your subject tests. Your only a junior. I did not take my Subject tests, both math and chem, till May for the very first time. MY suggestion, ya dont wait for the last minute to study like i did, its more progressive. You dont absolutely have to take it in november or december, I think you should think about january if u want to do it soon and have enough time to study. That way, assuming u have winter break, you can try to study over winterbreak, or over a period of time. Don’t worry about it, November is fine if you are up to it and commit to your date and study before. PSAT you dont really need to study for, its mostly just to see if you can qualify for the national merit scholarship. Hope that helps.

I think you can take them in November.SAT and PSAT are very similar and it shouldnt take you much more of time to study for it after the sat.I suggest you study a bit for the subject tests starting now so that the material remains familiar.Im guessing you already know most of the chem concepts…so focus mainly on math.2 weeks is enough at a stretch actually. You can easily manage it!

I think you’re rushing yourself completely and there is no need to take the SAT before you take the PSAT. Also you don’t need to cram for the Subject tests because you can just take them when you feel ready at the end of your junior year or even the start of your senior year. Most people take them at that time and if you rush yourself you will probably be disappointed with your scores all over again and end up wasting your time. Learn the material thoroughly and slowly and give yourself enough time to absorb the information, then you will get a good score.

Hey guys, I’m taking the Chem SAT II and Math II as well, but in October. I bought the REA book for Chem. Is it good or is it bad to use?

I’m with WorriedJrGirl. I don’t know how busy you are with extracurriculars, but an October PSAT and SAT, followed by a November Chem and Math II, can be very intense. My kids’ extracurriculars take up a whole lot of weekends in the fall semester. If you add in the extra tests and study time required, you’re pressing yourself for no good reason.

My son studied over Thanksgiving break and Winter break and took the SAT II in January. This worked out perfect for him. There was ample study time, at a relaxed pace. And January weekends don’t tend to be jam-packed for him … so less conflicts with his extracurriculars.

Good luck in all you do!

^^REA is not that good, from what I heard from my classmates who took SAT II Chem.
