SAT II Chemistry May 2012

1) How do you separate sand and salt? I chose the first one picture.
2) What kind of radiation does the sun give off? Ultraviolet?

i put the funnel for sand and salt because salt dissolves in water… sand doesn’t so that stays in the funnel while the salt and water go through the paper

you separate sand and salt with the filter/funnel right??

and then the iron and copper with the magnet

and what about the h2 from hcl?

oh my god I skipped like 13 too!!! I thought it was only me, but I see that a lot of people omitted many questions… I hope the curve is lenient… OH GOD, PLEASE.

for the instrument that separates the 2 gases i chose the first picture (thistle tube i think)

for the 2 gases I chose the last picture. Zinc dissolves in hcl to give off H2 which is insoluble in water.

What about the separating zinc and copper. I put the magnet.

Yep, iron is magnetic while copper isn’t.

how many did u guys omitted? i did 16 :T will i still be able to get in the 700s?

It will probably be a regular curve -1 or -2. My guess. 80-81 RAW = 800.

I omitted one…it was one of the relationship analysis questions. Based on everyone’s reactions I think the curve may be slightly more lenient…maybe -3 or 4 = 800

what does a -3 or -4 curve mean? :o

what other questions were there?
were there supposed to be THAT many math problems???

it just means that you can get 3 or 4 points off of your raw score and it’d still be an 800

ohh i see

how many did you guys omitted?
how a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) what would u rate the test?

i omitted one but i know i got some wrong alraedy.
i thought it was a 9
it was so much harder that any of the practice tests i had taken.

@tneduts I got all the same answers as you, I hope we are right! Did you guys get one or two TTCE? I had one…

i had two TTCE i think

and that’s a good news if we all think it’s hard… it means that the curve would be “nice” to us

on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) what would u guys rate the test?

Feel free to add to this consolidated list:

Ionization energy, Isoelectronic, kinetic energy
The sun emits ultraviolet radiation
The earth emits infrared radiation
Salt and sand are separated with a funnel
Copper and iron are separated with a magnet
HCL and H2 gas are separated with that last picture of bubbling water
9 L of water to dilute HCL
SiCl4 is tetrahedral
Highest kinetic energy was CH4
Partial pressure of N2 is 100
Copper solution was blue
Silver and something else formed a precipitate
Phenalthapin turns BASES pink

I had 2 TTCEs and I’d rate it about a 7 or 8 compared to the practice tests I took
