Sat Ii Help...please

Can I get into the engineering school with an SAT in Math and history. I am planning on taking a science SAT II but not until January, and i don't know if UPenn will look at a January score. It is just that my school dosen't offer a AP Science until Senior year, so I want the 2 months between the dec and jan test to study. Do you think this will work?

Pretty sure you need chem or physics...
No, january will not work.
Why not self-study and take dec 2nd?

You do realize that they will not get the scores until mid-march, at which time their decisions are pretty much solidified. The Jan date is only good if you get waitlisted.

well according to their website it says they are "encoraged". That means not taking it may hurt me, but won't destroy me right??? I am just not sure if i can self study bio in 3 months. Has anyone done that before?

encouraged means - you must take.

you can most definitely study the SAT II material in 3 months. I know many people who have done it. It requires diligence though.

and does biology even count for engineering. Their website says science, but other colleges say only chem or physics?

What's with all this self-studying? Do your schools really suck that much? Whatever happened to parents choosing neighborhoods based upon good schools?

You really ought to have physics in order to get into engineering programs. Chemistry's alright, and biology is last of the three. If you can only take biology, make sure it's clear on your HS transcript materials that physics and chemistry weren't offered.

Ok...so if history and math 2 won't look good for engineering, do you think I can apply as a science major to the CAS with just those two, or will I also need bio for CAS too.

That's an entirely different question. Do you want to study engineering, or science? They're very different fields, and your motivations and reasons there matter more.

Check out this page for the actual recs: http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/applying/testing.php

Whether you apply to science in the college or engineering, you should probably go ahead and take biology.

Ok...so biology counts for engineering? Has anyone taken bio, and not chem/physics and got in?

They don't have any specific SAT II requirements for the different colleges/schools. However, it's a safe bet that you should take at least one science SAT II if you're going to apply to engineering. Beware, though, that the biology is the hardest SAT II. It also has a nasty curve...

yea...i am starting to think that maybe I should take chemistry instead...any advice?

I don't know much about the Chem SAT2, but I took the Bio-E one, with barely any preparation from my school, having read a prep book the previous week, and I got a 670.
