SAT II in freshman year? WHist.

Hi, I'm self-studying APWH and considering taking the SAT World History along with it this year. I've heard the worst tales about junior year and don't want to get overly stressed, so I figured if I do well on this SAT II, then that's one less to worry about. ^^

Do colleges even care about an SAT II taken in freshman year? How much overlap is there between AP and SAT II World History tests? Finally -- is this a good idea?

Thanks for your input :)

As long as you do well on the test, colleges probably won’t mind that you took it as a freshman. In fact, that may look impressive to them, given that most people take the exam as upperclassmen.

One word of advice, however: It would probably be a good idea to wait to sign up for the SAT II until after you get your scores back on the AP exam. If you do well on the World History AP test, you’re probably in pretty good shape for the SAT II. However, if you don’t do as well as you hope, you might want to take extra time to study for the SAT II or pick another test altogether.

Good luck! :)

My kid took SAT subject test the summer after his 8th grade. CB says that they keep score for four years, so it should be fine…I don’t know if taking it early looks impressive or not but it certainly takes some load of your back for sophomore and junior years, when you will probably have a lot of exams to study for. So I would say go for it if you think you are ready!

I am not familiar with the World History tests, but AP USH is almost identical to SAT USH.
