I plan to take a language test during an early Fall sitting of the SAT IIs, and I’d like to start studying the basics now so then when I have time during the Summer I can jump right into studying it, see a language coach, etc. I’m very interested in Korean, and I’d like to learn it, but I’ve heard that it’s next to impossible to get a really good score on the East Asian Language tests due to the high volume of Asian students likely getting 800s on them. Is this true? Have any native English speakers here taken the Korean/Japanese/Chinese SAT II? I’d still like to learn it in the future, I’d just like to know if it’s worth my time learning it now when my main goal is to get a good score on the corresponding subject test.

Right now I’m leaning towards German as an alternative.
Hi @itllendintears Yes, it is super hard to get an 800 if you are not a native speaker for the Asian languages. However, if you do, colleges will be really impressed so it is up to you if you want to try. I have heard of several of my friends who are white and took Japanese and got 800s, but that was because they watched Anime 24/7, even in class. German seems like a good choice, although I heard it can be tough for the listening portion. Hope this helps !
