so. how bout that lit test.

I did no preparation for the Lit subject test and felt it was the easiest of the three I took (Lit, USH, Math II). The poems weren’t as indecipherable as I expected, which was a huge relief. I omitted one question and probably missed three or four; anyone have an idea of what kind of score that translates to?

@xmyles:
I’m betting it’s a 790-800.

I hope so, because I’ll be lucky to score over 740 on the other exams :P

I took it as well and didn’t omit any questions…perhaps that was unwise. I’d guess no less than a 750.

I didn’t do very well on the last poem, I was rushing and couldn’t really decipher its deeper meaning. I really enjoyed some of the selections, namely the one about the asian girl and the songless lyre. Whatever, I got into USC so I could care less…

WheN do the scores get released?

I actually really liked some of the passages! I remember being (somewhat) awestruck at this one poem in the 1600s about being being alive and perceiving the world… Does anybody happen to know what the title is (if it’s allowed)?

That being said, I actually finished on time. And seeing as I was not able to do the same with the Barron’s review books, along with the fact that its questions are like 10x harder, I am actually looking forward to the results.

@GeeFizz The 16th of February.

I particularly liked the first story about the girl living in poverty. And the reflection of the Asian girl was really interesting.

I omitted one of the questions (the one with tricky vocabulary words) and otherwise didn’t feel it was too difficult. Wasn’t originally planning to take the Lit test but my brain was about to shut off after Physics haha.

I really liked that poem too. It’s called Salutations and is by Thomas Traherne

out of curiosity, did anyone study for this one?

and does anyone know how many you can get wrong and get a 800 still?

It wasn’t hard, per se, but I canceled my score because i didn’t finish on time
I agree with other people who said that they enjoyed some of the stories. I was surprised by the amount of poetry, because usually there will be a drama too, but there wasn’t any on this one.
I spent a lot of time on the Salutations poem. I had to read it a few times, and i still didn’t really understand the meaning. From what perspective was the poem written? was it about welcoming life?

Am I the only one who probably didn’t do well? Aaah…

yeah i remember there being one or two passages being particularly difficult…one was the Salutations one and i forget the other ones…

how will the curve be this time? what would 5-8wrong be?

It’s impossible to definitely answer, thocho, but I imagine that only 5-8 wrong would result in a score in the upper 700s.

thanks.

does anyone remember some of the questions to the salutations poem? is it about the birth and then death of a person going to heaven? i read a poem analysis on it after the test and it stated that it was actually about someone being reborn in heaven. lol idk after reading that i feel like i totally messed up on that part.

The asian girl one was taken from a pretty popular work, “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan.

Was Salutations an address to the new surroundings or God? That really threw me off. Also was it someone entering “eternity” or “a baby entering the world”? I couldn’t tell if it was about dying and going to heaven or celebrating the “beauty of earth” in the perspective of a baby. That was the only poem that really threw me off.

same. i put “baby entering the world” and address to “new surroundings” as answers but now they i look back it seems kind of confusing…

can anyone clarify?
