SAT II Literature

How difficult is the SAT II Literature? I was wondering if most people invest a lot of time studying for this test.....

It differs with people. I find it difficult and I'm an avid reader. My brother got a 730 CR score and then a 530 on his SATII Lit. But others find it very easy.

I spent a lot of time studying for it for my 800

how did u study for it lolcats?

Lit was a bit more difficult than the CR on the SAT. CR-730, Lit-710 on a whim. Not amazing, but I'm not sure whether I can do any better with studying. You need good vocab and to analyze (mainly British) lit well.

As other posters have said, it's basically like the CR, but with a wider and more challenging range of texts: poems and older novels.

I find that the fastest increases on the Lit test come from acquainting yourself with the poetry, mostly because that's the area that high school students are usually the least prepared for.

lolcats4, I'm curious too: what studying method did you use?

I took every practice test I could lay my hands on and reviewed the explanations for every question I guessed on or missed :)

I recommend Kaplan

I got an 800 CR and a 650 lit. I hate that test.

I got a 670 CR and 790 Lit. Didn't study for Lit, but studied for CR. I have no idea what happened.

It's pretty hard especially in terms of time constraints, and I don't think CR score is a good indication. I didn't study for my CR and practiced for Lit but I got a 720 Lit and 800 CR.

how many questions are on lit and how much time is there?

dont the questions vary per test? i think its usually around 55-62 ish

correct me if im wrong

^ are all the subject tests an hour?

There are 60 questions for Lit and every test is one hour long.

I just took the test. It was an anxious sort of event; maybe it was so nerve-wracking due to the fact that it was my first major testing experience. The most curious part of the whole business is that I found it to be difficult, more so than I had expected, although I have always done very well indeed in my literature classes, have published poetry, and read extensively (from Shakespeare to Tolstoy to TS Eliot.) Needless to say, it was discouraging, especially since I had studied seriously with the Kaplan, Barron and EST Practice Books.

I am hoping that the score will be brilliant even though I thought I did so-so. Sometimes that has happened to me when I take online tests; I get a higher score than I expected. Has that ever happened to any of you? Have you ever imagined that you did abominably and have been pleasantly surprised? :)

PS How long does it take for you to receive the scores through the mail? And do they include your percentile in the report? Thank you!

I thought lit was fairly okay. It just depends - it’s a hard CR, essentially. I didn’t study much for it. I took two practice tests. The BB one was helpful, Kaplan’s was an inaccurate practice test.

However, I got a 790 Lit and a 740 CR… weird. IDK what that’s about.
