SAT II Math I or II

I took Trig as a junior and am going to take calculus next year. does it look bad to schools with lower admission rates (30% and below) if I take the Math I instead of II? I am just not that confident in my trig, I had a terrible teacher.

It is not an issue of looking bad. If the college accepts math 1, you can use it rather than Math 2 without any issue. However, you have to make sure math 1 is acceptable, e.g., Caltech requires the math 2, Stanford strongly recommends math 2 if you submit a math. Few have those restrictions but it is one of those requirements that could change at any particular college and thus you should check colleges you want to apply to to assure math 1 can be submitted.

It’s easier to get a higher score on Math II than it is on Math I, despite Math II being harder than Math I. There are plenty of review books and resources, so getting high-700s or 800 shouldn’t be hard after some studying over the summer. Personally, I would take Math II, but if most of the colleges you applying to accept Math I, you could take that instead.
