SAT ii "recommended"

So is this like… secret code for “You really will be at a loss if you do NOT submit an SAT ii score”?
My intended major is math/focus on computer theory if that makes any difference whatsoever.

It’s not so secret. If you can, take it (them) and submit.

@Waiting2exhale I took them on a last minute whim because I did not know they were required for most top school until September of this year.
Math II: 670
Bio: 650
Submit them anyway? I feel like I would be hiding something if I did not submit them.

I am planning on retaking Math II 700+, but money is slightly tight right now with all my college apps going out at once.

Yes, retake the Math II, and please contact the colleges about waivers if you believe you may 1)be eligible, or 2)be in a strained situation submitting all your apps without them.

Some colleges will allow for the student/family to make the request for a waiver with no outside officer or organization needing to certify the validity of your request. You can send a quick email to the colleges left on your list tonight and inquire about the possibility of receiving a waiver, and by the time school is out tomorrow, you may have an answer.

The Math II SAT score does (appear to )need to be raised if you are applying to top tier schools, to keep you competitive. The Bio score is one which most people would tell you not to send, as it does not peak 710/730. But with your plate being full, and the fees mounting, I would merely strongly suggest you redo your Math SAT II.

My mind is set. I know I can do math so I will retake the Math ii. It is just a matter of relearning those pesky, yet necessary pre-calc concepts. I won’t be sending the bio score to schools unless it is required to do so(HA. That is what I get for taking Bio ii without having taken a bio class). Hopefully my newer Math ii score will make up for it.

Let this be the final push in my admission journey! Thanks @Waiting2exhale. BTW your username is relatable.

If it is a UC engineering program it isthe not so secret code for you must submit them or someone else will that will be admitted over you.

I wish you the wind at your back, @math3matical.

@math3matical - No, NOT a secret code.

My son called NU admissions - which also has “SAT IIs are recommended, not required” - was told that SAT IIs were for those students that wanted to show a competency in an area that grades and other testing did not reveal. Since S had 4.0 GPA and all 5s on his APs he did not take any SAT IIs and was an ED Admit.

However, as you know, anecdotal stories are not evidence, so if you are still unsatisfied, I suggest that YOU call YOUR admissions dept and ask them the question. Why mess around with an anonymous message board when you can go to the source?

That is very interesting, @nugraddad. That would make me wonder what role the SATII exam plays at other institutions.

Sometimes, “recommended” means that they expect applicants from high SES backgrounds and high schools with well-oiled college-prep processes to have them, but they may cut some slack to those from low SES backgrounds and high schools where few go beyond the community college or local state university and therefore may not have heard about SAT subject tests until it is too late.

Since the OP has already taken SAT subject tests, it is obvious that s/he knows about them.
