SAT II Spanish timing...or not?

DS is a junior. His #1 choice will use the SAT II Spanish test for placement. He will have had close to 2 years of college level Spanish by the time he graduates so his plan now is to get an additional major in Spanish if he gets placed at a junior or better level in college (doesn't want to go more than 4 years to do this though). We are thinking that taking the Spanish subject test next June (senior year) would be the best timing. Agree? Thoughts? The school doesn't use the subject tests for admissions. Is June of senior year too late to have a score sent for placement?

Also, so far, none of the rest of the schools he is looking at use the SAT II for placement so, if he doesn't get into his #1 choice, just skip the test altogether and having a June test date would allow us to not register for the test at all if he won't take the test.

Tests for placement usually can be done before the actual schedule making process for the college itself. Many seniors take AP exams at the end of the year in order to be eligible for credits/placement in the fall of their freshman year in college. I do not see how taking the SAT II for placement would be any different.
