I'm a junior in high school with a GPA of 4.0 both semesters this school year. I'm completing Algebra 2 (which I earned a B in both semesters) and I was wondering - is it worth it to take a SAT II in Math 1 or 2? How does this look to colleges? I will be taking it in the fall (October) before I apply to college. Will this be an extra boost for my application?

Math level 2 is for students who have completed trigonometry and precalculus.

II has the easier curve but also tests more complex information. Have you had trig concepts in algebra 2? What were your previous classes?

If you’re only completing Algebra 2, I wouldn’t recommend Math 2. It covers everything up to pre calculus. That being said, many colleges don’t accept Math 1, only Math 2 (like the UC’s in California). They wouldn’t be much of a boost, I’d say only take subject tests if you KNOW you’ll do well in them.

Would studying over the summer help? Since most colleges don’t take Math 1, I would be prepared to study Math 2. I have covered trigonometry, and I will be taking precalculus in the fall as my math class.
