SAT II: U.S. History Discussion May 2009

Yah I think it said established social security, not reformed it.

For the LBJ one - I think the question was: “all of of the following BEGAN under the Great Society EXCEPT…”

The answer was Social Security since SS began under the New Deal.

Also, for the 3 yrs Great Depression - the answer was inflation. During the Depression, nobody had any money, meaning the money supply was smaller i.e. “deflated.”

did anyone put southern/eastern immigrants as an asnwer?

for the immigrant quote (or w/e) laws? something like that…it gave this list of immigrants…like where they came from (latin america, asia, etc)…this had to do with 1920so I put souther/eastern…not sure tho

Yeah I said S. and E Europeans b/c of the National Origins Act of 1924.

the answer was definitely social security.
the vaccine was polio, because it was created in the 1950’s
and it was a declaration of principles because european nations never agreed to it

Oh my fault then. Probably read the question wrong because im positive lbj did help out social security.

the answer was naval blockades for the cuban missile crisis because it was successful as opposed to sending in exiles, which is wrong.

the gulf of tonkin bypassed congress and allowed johnson to declare war

crap i put codification of international law for that…

i didnt know the definitions for any of those…should have skipped, ■■■

“Clay and Warhawks supported War of 1812 why”
The answer was expansion to Canada (though I put pro-French).
I’m still sticking with Portugal cause their explorers are included in my textbook.
What was the answer to the one about slavery after 1675? I said that it expanded because there were insufficient numbers of white indentured servants, but I have a feeling it’s wrong.

the Henry Clay question was “south-west alliance in order to expand slavery into canada”

i read it in the textbook.

the war hawks came primarily from the south

^that questin was an except one, but nevertheless, i put that one too

i thought the war hawks was anti british and pushing slavery or something

oh yeah just a general statement:

presidential doctrines are NEVER CODIFIED INTERNATIONALLY

they’re only a set of principles or goals that the presidents aim to follow, so the monroe doctrine was not codified.

matthewmo: page 230 of American Pageant, hell yeah? or do you use a different book

the henry clay 1812 question wasn’t an EXCEPT question…

what were the other choices for teh great depression?

The answer was not Southern and Eastern Europeans- the question basically asked which it prohibited more. Quotas for Southern and Eastern Europeans were LIMITED, but not completely abolished. Pretty much it was established that NO Asians were allowed to immigrate to the United States.

Answer is definitely Asians.

haha i use a different book, but that’s okay! lol still the right answer :)

w8 but anyway did i get that question right…

i know i put pushing slavery as my answer

and ***, i thought it was southern and eastern europeans…

i put southern and eastern europeans because it specified the time period, no?

was agitation in the Ohio frontier an answer?
