SAT II US History Preparation

Hello everyone, I am taking the SAT II US History on May 7th. I have already completed the "U.S. History in a Flash" book, and I am also taking APUSH so I have experience from that.

Do you think the Sparknotes tests are representative of how difficult a real SAT II test would be? Or are the Sparknotes tests much too easy?

Also, what other resources are you using to prepare? The AMSCO is around 750 pages, but that is too much to read and thoroughly understand at this point in time.

haha I’m in the same position except I got several pages left in the direct hits book.

im taking the test too. but when i was going through the different books, the sparknotes one seemed easier to me…idk lol

I’m taking the AP and subject tests too. I haven’t taken any of the book tests yet (I’ve been focusing on the AP test), but I took one of the Sparknotes tests and it wasn’t TOO hard. I don’t completely trust the Sparknotes tests though, so I’m definitely going to take some tests out of books.

I’ve reviewed with AMSCO and Crash Course as well as my APUSH textbook. Is that enough to do well on the subject test? Are the questions more detailed than the AP test? I’m really hoping for an 800 :)

^Yes, AMSCO + your textbook + paying attention all year should net you a very good score, quite possibly an 800. Questions are if anything simpler than those on the AP test.

OP, since AMSCO is so long, I’d recommend reading as much of it as you can. Choose several chapters on which you feel particularly weak, and focus on those. Then review the other stuff in a more condensed study guide.

As opposed to the common belief that SAT II is much easier, I found it to be a bit more difficult in terms of curve. To get a 5, your expected to have about 60/80 MC right, but for an 800 on SAT, you need a bit more than 80/90 (88.8% as opposed to 75% for AP). I can usually hit that 60 mark for AP, but rarely the 80 one for SAT II.

Does anyone else have that feeling?

From experience taking both the SAT II USH and APUSH exam, here’s what I think. As someone asked, I think the sparknotes tests are pretty good online. I got 700+ on them, and ended up getting a 740 on the real exam. Plus, I used the Kaplan book, which I got between 670-730 on practice tests. Both of those are good. I got a 4 on the AP test. I thought the SAT II test was easier.

Well for me personally, I found the AP to be easier this year in terms of the MC. Still, the curve is easier for MC, so on lines of what you are saying, I agree.
