Is reading AMSCO enough for an 800 in the SAT II US History?

If not, what should I supplement it with?

Hey mabs,

Nice to hear from you again. I actually am currently doing the same thing (reading from AMSCO). You know alot of people have told me that reading Kaplan and AMSCO is a good “method” of study for people that want the 800. However, after just a cursory look at the SAT 2 in the official guide and reading over both study guides, I am not so sure that reading both is a “guarenteed” 800. Knowing the stuff in AMSCO, though, should give you the info needed to get 730-750 and kaplan will help cement what you know and help you get into that 770-800 range. Alot of it is, as always with the SAT, luck.

Best of luck this last year!

Thanks for the reply!

One Question: I know that the general consensus is that AMSCO is the best but does the Kaplan book have info that AMSCO doesn’t cover?

I havent studied much from Kaplan yet, but alot of people on CC and in real life have told me that Kaplan is the 2nd best SAT 2 review book after AMSCO. Additionally, they have also said that Kaplan has some small- arguably worthless- facts that some of the harder questions may ask about that AMSCO does not have. Sorry, I know this is really 2nd hand stuff, but I figured I’d just tell you what I have been told.

Personally I swear by AMSCO. I mean I used it, pretty much exclusively, for the test last june and was able to get an 800. The only other source of studying I used was rereading my own notes from throughout the year for certain chapters that I needed more review on. All in all, the subject test is much more fact-based than the AP test which seems more analytical. If you’ve taken a full year of APUSH then the SAT II will seem like second nature.

Is REA AP and Crash course okay to get above 700 :-s
