SAT II's vs. AP's

My s. will major in history or music and is taking history and French AP as a hs junior. Isn't it a waste of time to take these same subjects at SAT II and no others? Wouldn't his application be stronger if he had a math or science SAT II? Or does it not matter?

It doesn't matter for most schools. They want SAT IIs in different subject area; history and foreign languages are different subject areas.

That being said, I understand that some schools (UChicago rings a bell, but I may be wrong) don't accept foreign language SAT IIs. Other schools may request a math or science SAT II.

In all cases, make sure that the colleges your son is interested in don't have their own specific requirements.

I've wondered about it too. While the official word is they will take anything, it stands to reason that when they are looking at you, if you only have AP's and SAT-IIs in the same subjects then you don't have an objective measure to demonstrate that you are good in the other areas as well. I would take a Science in addition, and then let the SAT-I demonstrate ability in English and Math.
