SAT II's

Son took SAT II's. Got 610 in Physics and 670 in Math. On the common app it asks for all tests taken including SAT II's. One of his schools does want them the rest don't. INEU does not require SAT II's, but if they are sent will they be factored in? The physics is not that great - so I'm afraid it could hurt son. He is applying to the college of science. I think they need to be on the common app, so if they are not received I'm not sure what that will say to the admissions counselors. All of the aspects of application should be fine.

Also, he has taken every honors science class possible in high school and has either gotten very high B’s or A’s in all of them -

Well first check to see if maybe you can send out one “version” of the common app (to the school that needs the SAT II scores) and then edit it and send the new “version” to the other schools. I honestly can’t remember how the common app worked, so I totally have no idea.

But I wouldn’t worry about it. If you have to send the scores to one school, and you have to send the same app to every school… then you don’t have a choice. You just have to send them. There is no point in worrying about if sending them to Northeastern will hurt, because you don’t have any say in the matter anyway. Just send them and forget about it.

But check to see if you can edit the common app after sending it to one school and then edit it before sending to others, cause then your problem’s solved.

(Side note: Unless he is applying as a Physics major, then the physics score being 610 probably won’t matter much. No one likes physics or is any good at it, except for physics majors. I’d actually be more concerned about the math score. Typically if someone takes the math SAT II, it’s because they are really good at math. The average score tends to be very high because of that. I remember being told that I shouldn’t even apply to one particular sciency-school if I didn’t get an 800 on the math SAT II).

thanks neuchimie. You can do that - you can create a new application. He was just trying to be honest because the question was asked, but if the school does not require the score why send it? Maybe we will do that.

Anyway, I did call the one school that requires SAT II’s. They say their mid-50th for SAT II’s is 620-740 with the avg being about 670 so his math is right on for that one. The physics is only slightly below (at 610). I’ve also heard at that schools the SAT II’s don’t count for much and his SAT I’s are mid-1900’s (first sitting) so right in line.

That sounds good. I wouldn’t be concerned about honesty unless sending out your SAT scores also sends out your SAT II scores (which I don’t think it does, but it was a while ago so the details are fuzzy). I definitely wish I didn’t have to send my AP Physics score.
