SAT in October!!

I am going to appear for the SAT in October. I am having problems in the CR Sections. How to improve ??

the blue book sounds like it is the gold standard for SAT prep. it can be purchased on amazon. College board also had some products available on its website. is this ur first SAT?

Try Erica Meltzer’s The Critical Reader, or if you want to save the cash, start with her website

Vocab - Use Direct Hits, Quizlet flashcards, or an app like Mindsnacks
Passage-Based - Read more, untimed Blue Book tests, Erica Meltzer’s

If you tell us where you’re at right now, we could provide you a little more in-depth advice.

Erica Meltzer’s website is definitely a great place, as she provides free CR passage/SC tests  I don’t have her Critical Reader book, but I’ve been using it to brush up on some of my skills

@ctl987 Yes, this is going to be the first SAT

check some of the other threads on here. there has been some good advice on studying for all SAT sections, including the CR. i can’t remember all the recomended products. i would still start with the blue book though and check what other posters say about best way to use blue book. Good luck!!!

First, figure out where you’re struggling (vocab or comprehension). If it’s vocab, definitely study from direct hits and essential 500. If it’s comprehension, work through to blue book CR passages and make sure you understand the answer to every question you do.

Also, when you say you’re having problems on the CR section, how have you come to this judgement if this is your first SAT? If you’re using scores from anything other than the blue book, don’t take those scores as absolute. Most prep books don’t have practice tests that are close to the actual SAT.

Well, i am giving some practice test’s from the kaplan’s SAT. From the result’s I am scoring low in the CR sections mainly long comprehensions!!

The CR section is my strongest so far, so I figured I’d post my 2 cents… One thing that helped me is the idea that the questions seem to be repetitive ~ (What’s the main idea? What’s the primary purpose? What does “some simple word” mean in context? etc.) ~ so In my mind, the only thing that changes is the passage. One other point that I know made me better ~ When you miss one, try to figure out why the answer you put down was wrong.
