SAT - January 2011 International discussion...

hi everyone! i was wondering if the question that contained 1/n, 1/4,1/5 was part of the experimental section for math?
i think it was asking to find “n” but the 1/n had to be between 1/4 and 1/5.

also, is there a complete list for math? or like a thread with math ans?
thanks! ;)

@SnowyMaple
I remember that Math question but I don’t recall what the answer choices were.
As for the list of Math answers,you can check the November 2008 Math discussion but the answers are rather vague.

@kimayu ok thanks i think i vaguely remember the question for the first answer on the world war II fast food passage. But I don’t have any impression about the second question… What was the question about and what were the choices given? How can food be “absurb”?

@reflection09
Because in the passage the author mentioned something about,"I swear—there is even concentrated mineral water."She described 2 other type of food.In my opinion,her description implied that this sort of processed food seems absurd.

@ reflection09

the qn goes along the line of:
“in the attempt to do something, journalists sometimes …one side of the debate…”

the entire qn is underlined.

its ok if u dun rmb… i myself have v fade memory of the exact wording.

@ reflection09

are u an asian? This posting of yours http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/11890019-post265.html</a> makes you well-acquainted with asian trends and developments.

"For the essay I talked about China’s economy focusing on economic growth indicators as opposed to income disparity/unemployment(process), singapore’s education system(route learning versus independent learning), and the research culture in Korea(scandal of the Korean scientist feigning his experimental results while neglecting the process). "

@ zackzm yea not like its going to make a difference even if i remember… keeping my fingers crossed… i need to hit 2100 =(

yea I’m a Singaporean, what about you? where are you from?

@reflection09

are you sure u need only 2100 if u re a singaporean? which colleges are u aiming for?

@reflection09

i have pm-ed u, in case u dont check ur inbox

@zackzm I already got my place at Imperial college. I’m doing SATs because my scholarship demands that I get 2100 regardless of whether I’m going to UK or US. What about you where are you from and which college are you going to apply to?

so what is the consensus for the set problem? the more i think of it, the more I believe that the answer is the set containing all multiples of 2.

the question if I remember correctly asked which set would contain all the multiples of 4 from 100-1000. 108, which is a multiple of 4 for eg, is divisible by 2 and 4 but not by 8.

the only problem is, I bubbled in multiples of 8(!!). gah, is -1 really 760 -.-

also, what did everyone put for the writing question with the brilliant managers and the ability they have? I bubbled in C which was the option just after the colon.

anyone knows what -1 and 8 essay is for writing?

@reflection09

u really dun check ur inbox here (at cc)… i answered ur qn in my pm to u.

@sghopeful
I think -1 is 780 if you follow the stats given by dark knight
And for the managers question,I’m not so sure…I know there’s a problem with one of the tenses there.All I know about the writing that there is two No Error answer.

i remember that question as something like:

…have one ability which sets the truly brilliant apart from the rest: they discovered what is unique about…

‘they discovered’ doesnt sound like an ability to me. shouldn’t there be a noun after the colon to correspond with the ‘one ability’ or something like “the ability to discover what is unique…”

I’m not sure though

@sghopeful
the math curve is -1 760, according to dark knight. i have conveyed the request from some of you here to dark knight to ask him to verify that. to date. no replies from dark knight… do be prepared, however, for a 10-20 pt deviation resulting from the different experimentals… hope this helps…

we dun have a writing curve for now… but ur essay score is likely to bring it down to the higher 600s if not the lower 700s… range from 680-740 perhaps?

@zackzm I got your message you sent me =)

Btw anyone took the SAT previously? Did your scores improve after taking a second/third time? What were your stategies

a 78 MC and 8 Essay is 680??!

M = 54 - 800; 53 - 780; 52 - 750; 51 - 730; 50 - 720; 49 - 700

I thought if you get -1 it should be 780?

without the benefit of a curve, my best bet is 700-740 if u have a medium curve, below 700 if its harsh curve…

the reason is the relatively low essay score of 8… essay accounts up to 200 points…

a 9 or 10 yields u easily 20-40 more points in certain curves…
