SAT January 2012 - Critical Reading

Hello Im the guy who made the thread. I wrote this there but just incase for you guys who didn’t see it, I’ll repost it.

For the sound one I think everyone has forgot the answer choice.
Many say one of the answer choices (probably D) was “that of sound.”
This is actually correct.
Instead it was “those of sound”
since those refers to plural things I crossed it out.
So I put the “speed of sound” which might seem redundant, but this was really the only choice to go with. I wish now we don’t have to debate about this anymore.

Also for the “introducing a phenomenon and solutions” the other answer choice was “introducing a theory and methods of testing it” (something like this).
I was also confused between these two. At first, I was confused if this was a “theory” at all. I thought rather “phenomenon” was a better term for the internal clock. However, can you guys find any “solutions”? There were no disputes regarding the internal clock. It was rather a discovery (possible “theory”) and the passage showed us “tests” conducted to prove our internal clock was 25 hours.
In short, I put “introducing a theory” because there weren’t any problems to “solve.”

PS: How was the test guys? This is my first time I took a test, and indeed it was hard for me. Do you guys think the curve will be lenient?

It says BEST answer, so no, you generally can’t argue on account of ambiguity, unfortunately.

For methodoloy vs philosophy, I put philosophy too. This is surely controversial.
In my opinion, I think the author 1 suggests a philosophy of hers (a photogapher should be keen about the events around her and be objective) and the author 2 explains it in depth

The CR curve will likely be lenient, and the Math curve will likely be very harsh; the Writing will be about average.

Pretty sure I’m at -2, well, a confirmed -2. Unfortunately, 3 or so of my answers are in debate. Not bad for my first time since 7th grade, I guess.
Missed:
“Adroit and erudition”
“Ruminate”

If a curve is harsh do u mean that the test was easy and u can’t a relatively low score compared to other tests?

If the curve is harsh, it means the test was fairly easy, the questions weren’t too difficult. THis means that -1 for math may be a 770 or 760. If it were a hard test, then -1 might be 780

-1 on math = 770? -1 on writing = 780? -3 on CR= 750?
:(

i have a question about the cave one…i think i put “to disrupt his biological clock” because not only was there no sunlight, it was also cold as a result, and in higher altitudes…?..and they talked about how traveling in the air disrupted your biological clock, and he was basically isolated from everything except for occassional communication with others to record the details…
T.T
urgh i hope i didn’t fail ):

So how was the CR, because it was hard for me.
Guys who took the SAT several times or took a lot of mock tests, can you tell me the difficulty of the CR and Writting out of 1,2,3,4,5 (5 is the hardest)
I think the Writting was like level 1 or 2 and CR like 4 or 5. I’m worried if the writting curve will be harsh.

Was the “recycling guy” option the one that talked about going to businesses to do workshops?

did anybody have a section about nixon and the kitchen debate? I had a CR experimental and i think this was it, but just making sure. My other ones were traffic, photography, and internal clock. sorry if this has already been addressed, but i didn’t want to go through 888 posts.

@ImErulisse, i’m almost positive that was to eliminate the sun because a) he was underground and b) the experiment was to see how the internal clock functions without disturbance.

@ameritamil Just use the Search This Thread Tool next time but yes, that section was experimental.

this was from the photography one

Objection to stories

for this one…what was the question…I don’t remember putting that down. What was the question and any other answer choices? anyone?

@000ooo000ooo

It was asking about the “possibility” that people may have differing perspectives on truth. The objections show that while the author thought he was right, critics did not agree with his view of truth.

Another option was the success of Cadwell’s book

edit: somebody please answer this -

Was the “recycling guy” option the one that talked about going to businesses to do workshops?

It was like “Initial objection to Caldwell’s stories” or something like that

Just trying it clear

-1 on math is never a 760, at lowest its a 770 and that’s only if the tests was EXTREMELY easy. This can’t be the case since so many people on CC got math questions wrong, that at least puts the curve at around 780-790.

Oh yeah I think I put that…I would really like to have the exact question though? Can you get any closer to the wording?

GoodJobBro…remember the curve is predetermined…

Man now I’m not sure if I even got above 600 lol…

he said underground T.T i must have been dozing off or something if i missed a big chunk of it
oh i thought he wanted to eliminate disturbances, thus disrupting his original biological clock for the experiment ):

then for the accumulate one, was it an answer with isolation?

I’m pretty sure I got “initial objection to Caldwell’s stories” for an answer, totally blanking on the question though.
