*SAT Literature June 2016 Discussion*

June 4th approaches…

What did u guys say for the one about explaining the two types of greed sharpens the description of Mrs. Something. I put it explains her greed more broadly

Also how bout the one that was like the geese shows that his plan is appropriate or unique?

broadly and also I said unique

I said that it shows her pettyness because the writer sarcastically described the first greed as being noble I think. It’s also consistent with the idea that she saves money in all these ridiculous ways.

what other poems and pieces do u guys remember?

I put that it showed his plan is appropriate because if you think about it… it’s not “unique” when the birds are a very obvious parallel to the plan! Essentially, he is doing what they are doing but more metaphorically. And I agree, it highlights that she is petty. Readers see the first type and they’re like oh, “what a petty person”, and the author is basically like “but wait! the second type is even MORE petty,” therefore highlighting that aspect of her. Anyone else think that the last poem about the heart was very confusing? It took me a while to understand that he was actually asking for his heart to be free and reckless, not sarcastically. I had no idea what to put for his tone towards “summer mischief” :frowning:

i said approving

any more questions? did someone put apostrophe and inverted syntax?

I put those answers. Also was the tone of the going to the woods passage cheery and optimistic or earnest and yearning? For the you are fickle passage, was it dejected and grief?

I said earnest and yearning because it seems like the narrator really wants to go out to the rural/woodsy areas because he hates the city life, but there is a reason why he’s wailing about it and not actually going out to do it and I took that to mean that he’s kind of stuck in the city for now; moving out is just a dream of his and something he wants to do before he gets old. And yea dejected and grief for the fickle passage!

@Wqqqqqq2342 yep I said that @Lolalovelu yes to both @supremenfp yes to everything. I said that he was basically saying it’s okay for young people to indulge and not pay attention to age and so on. reck the tomb etc. so Summer mischief would be approvingly then

can you guys share the questions you remember from the thou art fickle passage? i forgot the questions and the possible answers. Thanks!

Are you guys sure it was approvingly? I was a little hesitant on that choice because the line before suggests that it was an option “chucked” by the “caution” of the body, and caution was associated with age, which the narrator is negative about. Maybe I read it wrong.

what does the word explode mean?

and what does “mean” mean

Hey guys how was the test? The May literature one was pretty tough, just wanted to see how they compared.

I honestly don’t think it was terrible, besides a few questions that were tricky.

@Lolalovelu for explode I put it parallels his life. I don’t remember what I put for mean. What were the options?

I forget the word but I know I think it started with a p and I didn’t know what it meant
